A high-end town in NW DC, Cathedral Heights offers mini shopping areas and restaurants, the wonderful youth of American University, and of course, the National Cathedral. Smaller churches lie blocks from each other, scattered throughout the neighborhoods. The people are friendly and children are seen everywhere.
If you walk along Massachusetts Avenue you will also pass the little "hidden gem", the Kahlil Gibran Memorial.
Tenleytown-AU Metro stop is on the Red Line and closest. About a 20-minute walk.
You can catch the Metro transit bus at Wisconsin & McComb St NW, which can take you around the city or to the closest Metro station in minutes.
Cleveland Park Metro is also within walking distance of the Cathedral. You can take any of the lovely residential streets that go east-west - my favorite is Newark St. with all its large Victorian homes and beautiful gardens. It's an easier walk from the Cathedral back to the Cleveland Park station because it's downhill, but walking the other way is better exercise.
If you get off at Dupont Circle and take the N2 or N4 bus it will take you up through the heart of Embassy Row and past the Vice President's house and let you off almost at the National Cathedral.
There is a Capital bikeshare station at Wisconsin Ave & Newark St NW, only a few minutes walk from the home.
Lime, Bird, and UBER Jump scooters can be found all over the city as well and easily rented using your smartphone.
