Cameron House is designed for maximum enjoyment and entertainment. From the dining room that can seat 10, to the fully stocked wine cellar, her collection of silver and gracious place settings, lower level "Club Room", to the expansive walled garden where you open the kitchen's double French doors and the home flows directly into this spacious walled garden, making Cameron House the epitome of indoor outdoor living, with outside stereo system, 65" outdoor tv, dartboard and outdoor dining table.
Unlike many historic homes in Old Town, all upstairs bedrooms enjoy high ceilings. The Master Bedroom has its own Master ensuite bathroom with double vanities, and glass step in shower. There are USB outlets at the bedside and a 19th century Italian writing desk and leather topped table for your writing and business pleasure. The Master bedroom also overlooks the famous Carlyle Homes and Gardens - made even more famous with the PBS Series Mercy Street. On the same top level floor are two more bedrooms, and an additional full bathroom featuring a jetted jacuzzi tub. Both the Master bedroom and back bedroom have desk space workstations where you can catch up with work emails during your stay, sit with a good book, write, or simply surf the web to read about the next place you'll be visiting during your time in Alexandria!
Guests enjoy the home's modern conveniences like upgraded outlets with built-in USB and C ports conveniently installed on all the right strategic places throughout the home. Android Hubs in the living room and kitchen await your commands : "Hey Goog,le, where is the closest Thai restaurant in walking distance " Speakers connected to the hub are also featured in the upstairs bedrooms, allowing you to communicate easily throughout the three-level home.
The first floor features the living room, the Confederate blue dining room, bar, the Confederate Blue powder room, and kitchen, as well as a French door exit at the rear through the kitchen that opens up to the Cameron Walled Garden. The dining room has seating enough as is for a group of 8 (with table leafs available to accommodate up to 10). There is a Nespresso and Keurig machine, both in the kitchen (stocked with every flavor espresso, coffee, and tea) as well as a full-size coffee machine and French press.
In the lower level, we have the "Club Room" providing room enough for your entire group to spread out in the house and enjoy the big game or movie night on the 60" LCD. When not enjoying movie night, the Club Room, with its ensuite full bathroom (with shower), and closet perfectly converts into a private bedroom for two guests. The Club Room also features a full desk for work and catching up on your email.
Separated from the Club Room is the full size washer and dryer, and cedar closet. But, perhaps the best part is the full wine cellar at your disposal that is resplendent with a rotating selection of unique wines to be enjoyed at cost on the honor system (:
Every evening, for the city's Historic Walking Tour: period costumed guides feature Cameron House on their tour - pointing out it's unique crosses built into the eaves in 1870 just after the Civil War to protect the home against future ravages of war.
Curated antiquities and period art pay homage to Virginia's equestrian heritage Alexandria's central role in the Civil War, and as America's "Port City"- one of the country's busiest waterfront and shipping ports. In fact, the Potomac waterline used to be on Lee Street - just a few feet from Cameron House.
The Cameron Walled Garden is an extension of the home - open the double French Doors and enjoy the gurgle of the fountain. Friends and family can gather around the outdoor fireplace in the deep cushion 8-person sectional and enjoy a movie on the 60" outdoor plasma TV. Play a grudge game of darts. Or just listen and enjoy a glass of wine to your choice of music piped on the outside speakers (use your phone to connect to Cameron House sound system)
